The heating element is called an atomizer, and is in the main body of an e-cigarette. This is the piece that heats the liquid in the cartridge, and allows it to vaporize and be inhaled.

The final piece of the e-cigarette is the battery, and any additional electronics. For example, an electronic cigarette set might have a rechargeable battery (much like a cell phone), as well as an electric air flow sensor, which would activate the heating element when the user inhales on the mouthpiece.

Some e-cigarettes also have other electronics, such as timed cut off switches and LED lights to mimic the glow of a lit cigarette.
